Reports of Child Abuse
Reports of child abuse, neglect or exploitation are to be made directly to the CPS CANC reporting line: (833) SCC-KIDS (722-5437).
Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse
All Agency staff are MANDATORY REPORTERS. A referral must be made to the CANC of CPS when a complaint indicates that the child may be in danger and/or something specific has happened to a child, such as:
- The child is beaten, molested, or neglected,
- Parents leave the children alone for hours during the day or night.
The Mandated Reporter, MUST do the following :
- Document the details provided by the person making the report of suspected child abuse.

Note: The SS8572 is available in the DEBS online Forms Library and may be used to ensure all the necessary information is obtained.

- Immediately call the Child Abuse & Neglect Center Hot Line, (833)-722-5437.
- Prepare a written report on the "Suspected Child Abuse Report" (SS8572).
- Forwards all copies of the report, except the yellow copy, to the DFCS Child Abuse Screening Unit within 36 hours of receiving the information concerning the abuse.
- Scan the yellow copy to IDM under Benefits - F6.
