CalFresh Update 2024-07: Clarification for Missed Initial Intake Interviews

Background

Currently, the Processing Time Frames topic of CalFresh Handbook Chapter 4 Applications states:

  • If the household contacts the county to request another appointment within 30 days of the application date, then schedule a second appointment.

Changes

The following clarification has been added:

  • A second appointment must be scheduled within 60 days of the application date if
    1. there is documentary evidence that the household contacted the county within 30 days of the application date (including contact(s) made before the scheduled initial intake interview), AND
    2. the household missed the initial intake interview, AND
    3. the household requests a second appointment after 30 days but within 60 days of the application date.

When clients with a denied CalFresh case contact...

  • Clerical, refer to the Purpose of Visit section of the Intake Office Lobby topic in Clerical Handbook Chapter 7 Lobby Procedures.
  • EWs, refer to the Missed Initial Interview section of the Processing Time Frames topic in CalFresh Handbook Chapter 4 Applications.

Documentation

For cases with the scenario described above, EWs must clearly document that the household meets all three requirements.
