Background
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has issued comprehensive policy guidance on student eligibility.
Changes
The student handbook chapters have been updated, and new sections have been added to incorporate the new guidance.
The following chapters have been updated:
- Student definition
- Student Eligibility Exemptions
- Student Income Eligibility
- Verification of Exemptions
- Student Budget
- Local Programs that Increase Employability (LPIE)
- New resources, charts, and sample letters are added.
The new sections added to the handbook are as follows:
- College Meal Plans
- Tracking Student Exemptions in CalSAWS
- Restaurant Meals Program (RMP)
- Participation in an LPIE
- Does not Expect to enroll for the next regular term.
Detailed policy guidance regarding CalFresh students is available in the Student Chapter.
Documentation
Ensure that all significant eligibility decisions regarding student eligibility are clearly journaled in the case file.
