Background

The use of Jury Duty - Per Diem (payment) and Jury Duty - Mileage (travel reimbursement) income types in the CalFresh Eligibility Determination Budget Calculation (EDBC) is being updated to align with policy guidance. Prior to January 26, 2026, both Jury Duty - Per Diem and Jury Duty - Mileage income types were exempt from CalFresh.

Changes

The following CalFresh Handbook topics have been revised to include the treatment of Jury Duty - Per Diem and Mileage income types at application and ongoing cases.

Data Systems

Release of CalSAWS 26.01, System Change Request (SCR) CA-226480, automates the evaluation of Jury Duty - Per Diem and Mileage income.

Other Programs

This update applies to CalFresh and CalWORKs programs.
