Reverse Referral Process

Participants must first be approved for, and receiving the CalFresh Federal Food Assistance Program benefits in order to be eligible for the CFET program.

Encourage individuals to apply for CF if they appear eligible and encourage participants to apply through one of the following ways:

In Person at one of our SSA locations:

  • Assistance Application Center, 1867 Senter Rd. San Jose, CA 95112
  • General Assistance Services, 1919 Senter Rd. San Jose, CA 95112
  • North County, 1330 W. Middlefield Rd. Mountain View, CA 94043
  • South County, 379 Tomkins Ct. Gilroy, CA 95020

CF applications may take up to 30 days before a determination of eligibility is made, except applicants that qualify for Expedited Service.

CF eligibility must be maintained monthly for the entire duration of the period a client participates in the CFET program.

If a new prospective participant is not showing up in VSAS as a CalFresh benefit recipient, the CFET Third-Party Partner must:

  • Assist the participant to complete a CalFresh application either online, by phone, mail, or in person.
  • Send a secure email with the new applicant's information to the SSA CFET Program Coordinator.
  • Check periodically in the VSaS portal to see if participant has been screened for CFET eligibility and referral by an Eligibility Worker.
  • Once participant is screened and shows as eligible for CFET in VSAS, count client as a CFET participant.

More information and process regarding Reverse Referral is forthcoming.
