Work Activity

A Work Activity is performed in exchange for CalFresh benefits that provides the participant with an opportunity to acquire the general skills, knowledge, and work habits necessary to obtain employment. The purpose of work activity is to improve the employability of those who cannot find unsubsidized full-time employment.

Work Activity must be designed to:

  • Improve the employability of CalFresh E&T participants through actual work experience and/or training.
  • Enable individuals employed or trained under such programs to move promptly into regular public or private employment.

The maximum total number of hours of work each month must be determined by using the following formula:

Household's CalFresh monthly allotment divided by the local, state, or federal minimum wage, whichever is highest.
