Introduction
Clerical staff in the Social Services Agency is expected to perform support functions for the DEBS and to provide Client Services.
“We make a Difference through People, Service, and Performance” is a goal of the Department of Employment and Benefit Services (DEBS), and the Agency continues to be committed to the highest level of services within its resources. Much of the Agency's service is provided over the telephone, which provides an important connection between the Agency and the people with whom we do business.
As part of the clerical team in the Department of Employment and Benefit Services (DEBS), establishing harmonious working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and managers is extremely important. Cooperation and flexibility from clerical are essential. Without these two elements, it would be impossible to get the job done, and meet our Agency’s goal.
The speed and accuracy of work that crosses clericals’ desk affects co-workers, as well as our clients. Work done in a timely manner enables us to serve people effectively.
The Clerical Handbook is designed to assist clerical staff in accomplishing most of their task assignments. Each section of this handbook is a functioning desk manual; however, the procedures listed do not cover all circumstances. Therefore, clerical staff is encouraged to ask questions to the lead/supervisor when in doubt or in need of clarification. In addition, clerical staff is to follow their own district office procedures, as appropriate, when the business need in a particular district office require a variance in procedures.
