Background
Over the previous years, electronic theft has increased greatly. The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) continues to work on preventive ways to lessen electronic theft by enabling upgraded technology and enhanced security features on the EBT card.
Changes
CDSS launched the ebtEDGE Mobile Application and made enhancements to the Web-enabled Cardholder Portal to help prevent electronic theft via skimming and scamming. The ebtEDGE Mobile Application and Web-enabled Cardholder Portal will give California EBT cardholders more control of their EBT card(s) and provide access to new card management tools and security features.
Common Place Handbook chapter 16 EBT was revised to include the new topic ebtEDGE.
Implementation
The ebtEDGE Application and the Web-enabled Cardholder Portal became available to EBT cardholders on November 10, 2023. The State will conduct outreach to the cardholders to inform them of the implementation of ebtEDGE Mobile Application and the Web-enabled Cardholder Portal.
