Relative Placements
When a child is removed from the physical custody of a parent, federal and state laws require that preferential consideration be given to placing the child with a relative. It is estimated that 36 percent of all FC children in the state are in care of a relative. Approved or Certified RC in California must meet the health and safety standards that mirror those for license foster parents, such as undergoing criminal background and child abuse index checks.
