Interim Assistance Testing
Determination
The need for psychiatric, psychological, and/or medical testing for a General Assistance Interim Assistance (“SSI pending”) recipient is determined only by an SSI Advocacy Unit SW. This usually occurs when a client has been denied SSI at the Hearing Level.
If the Social Worker determines that an evaluation of disabilities is essential for approval of SSI, a one-time vendor payment may be approved as a Director's Exception for psychiatric, psychological and or medical testing. Refer to SSI Advocacy Handbook for specific procedures.
Note: Approval must be obtained before the testing can be performed. An estimate of the cost for the evaluation, may be used ONLY for the initial request. The Social Worker receives the name of the clinic and the cost estimate from the client’s attorney.
For related business process, refer to "Interim Assistance Testing DE" in the DEBS Business Process Handbook.
