Availability For and Acceptance of Employment
As specified in GA policy GA 215, an applicant or recipient who is classified as “able to work” shall remain available for full-time employment and shall accept any bona fide offer of employment.
Part-time Employment
An applicant or recipient who is employed part-time but qualifies for a GA must meet all of the requirements of the Vocational Services Program.
- Applicants/recipients who are employed part-time will be required to cooperate with all Vocational Services program requirements, such as complete the job search requirements, be assigned to a work project and be available to work full-time.
- Job search requirements and/or work project assignments must be scheduled so that they do not interfere with the applicant's/recipient's part-time work hours.
UIB
All potentially eligible employable applicants/recipients must apply for UIB.
Registration for Work
All employable applicants/recipients must be referred to the Vocational Services Program to be registered for work.
Registration with Employment Development Department
As specified in GA policy GA 216, an applicant or recipient classified as “able to work” shall register for employment with a local office of the State of California, Employment Development Department, and shall maintain such registration in an active status.
Employability Determination
All GA applicants/recipients will be presumed to be employable unless they:
- Are under Public Guardianship or Conservatorship; OR
- Declares that he/she is unable to work due to a medical/mental health condition.
Note: An applicant/recipient who indicates that they are unable to work will be determined “presumptively unemployable” pending a medical report. Refer to Unemployable chapter.
