Referrals to SSI Advocacy

Referrals are made to the SSI Advocacy Unit to help individuals with the application and appeals processes for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). [Refer to "Referrals to SSI Advocacy" in the GA BP handbook].

 

Referrals to SSI Advocacy typically come from the Eligbility Worker. However, clients who are enrolled in the Housing and Disability Advocacy Program (HDAP) may be referred to SSI Advocacy by the Office of Supportive Housing (OSH). HDAP provides outreach, case management, benefits advocacy, and housing assistance to individuals who are likely eligible for disability benefits and experiencing homelessness.

Important: EWs are not involved in the HDAP referral process. Clients must complete a VI-SPDAT assessment with a homeless service provider (shelter, community outreach, etc.) to begin the HDAP screening process. The following link has a list of agencies equipped for drop-in VI-SPDAT assessments:
