Update 26-01: Processing R-IEVS & One-Time Disposal of Match Abstracts
IEVS-BP Handbook
| Date | References | Clerical | Implementation |
| 02/26/2026 | ACL 26-05 | N/A | Immediately |
Background
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) has updated the processing timeframe for Recipient Income and Eligibility Verification System (R-IEVS) matches for closed cases.
Changes
Match abstracts must be processed within 12 months of the run date or the date of receipt, whichever is later, to calculate and pursue any overpayments or overissuances. If a match abstract is older than 12 months from the run date or receipt date, it should still be processed if there are suspicions of fraud.
Disposal of Match Abstracts
The CDSS, in partnership with CalSAWS, will dispose of all unprocessed R-IEVS abstracts that are older than 12 months from the run date/date of receipt, whichever is later. This means all electronic matches with unprocessed (unassigned and backlog) status in CalSAWS will be disposed of as having no impact.
Important: When a verification letter has been sent to the customer and/or employer, and the worker is waiting for a response, the worker must change the abstract to "in review" status in CalSAWS.
Paper Abstracts
Abstracts received in paper format, such as IRS, BEER, that are older than 12 months from the run date or receipt date, whichever is later, must be disposed of as having no impact.
Documentation
When closing match abstracts older than 12 months with no impact, the case journal must document the reason for disposal in accordance with ACL 26-05.
Data Systems
The auto-batch closing for one-time disposal dates is scheduled on or before March 31, 2026. The CDSS will communicate with the counties prior to the disposal.
Other Programs
This change only impacts the CalWORKs and CalFresh Programs.
