Background
Accelerated Enrollment (AE) provides temporary access to no-cost, full-scope Medi-Cal coverage to applicants whose self-attested information appear to meet eligibility requirements during the application process. Once the application is disposition, the individuals is either approved into their appropriate Medi-Cal program or denied Medi-Cal.
Changes
Children aged 19 and under are protected in a continuous eligibility period once AE has been established, and will remain protected for the 12 months following their application. Children approved for AE will have their appropriate MAGI aid code assigned to them in a protected status in CalHEERS. Impacted children must not be terminated during the application verification process, and their parent(s) are not subject to this continuous coverage protection period.
These children are to remain covered until their next Medi-Cal renewal or one of the following criteria is met:
- The child ages out during the continuous coverage period,
- The child is deceased,
- The child is no longer a California resident,
- The child is voluntarily disenrolled in Medi-Cal,
- The child's enrollment was based on fraud, abuse, or agency error.
The Medi-Cal Handbook Accelerated Enrollment topic has been updated with this information.
Data Systems
CalSAWS has been programmed to place impacted children in the appropriate protected MAGI aid code based on the applicant's self-attested information and AE eligibility.
Other Programs
This change only affects the Medi-Cal program.
