Adjustment of Status for Refugees
When a Refugee obtains an Adjustment of Status to LPR, DO NOT remove the Refugee Tracking Indicator Code in MEDS. Refugees must remain identified as Refugees in MEDS because they are still eligible for five years of Refugee benefits until they become U.S. citizens. Counties also receive Targeted Assistance and Refugee Employment Social Services funding based on the number of Refugees in their county. This is 100 percent federal funding.
