Disposition of Returned Medi-Cal Cards
Returned (Undeliverable) Cards
A returned (undeliverable) BIC is sent back to EDS. EDS swipes the returned BIC through a reading device that produces two separate files: one for bad addresses and one for deceased clients. EDS keeps the returned BICs for three days and then destroys them. The “Bad Address File” and the “Deceased Recipient File” are sent to DHCS to update the MEDS database on a daily basis. DHCS alerts the EW through the daily County Eligibility Worker Alerts numbered 9003, 9008 or 9009.
EW Responsibilities
When a County Eligibility Worker Alert is generated which advises the EW of a returned BIC, the EW must follow the agency procedures to fix the problems.
