Communicating with MEDS/CDB

General Information

In order to communicate with MEDS/CDB and instruct the system to activate Medi-Cal and/or CalFresh records, issue and/or reactivate BICs and change existing data on the database, communication (or interface) must be done in MEDS/CDB understood language. This is accomplished through one of the following methods:

  • CalSAWS nightly batch process, or
  • Direct MEDS/CDB transactions via online entries completed by the MTOs.

The first method requires CalSAWS programming to look at all the input, decide what has changed, and translate this change into MEDS/CDB understood language or transactions.

MEDS Transactions Generated by CalSAWS and CalHEERS

As CalSAWS and CalHEERS interfaces with MEDS, there are certain transactions initiated in CalSAWS and CalHEERS that will trigger an action in MEDS.

The following transactions are generated by actions taken in CalSAWS:
