9501 - Potential Medicare Buy-In Age 64 Yrs 9 Mos or Over - Alert
This alert is generated monthly in the Renewal process whenever a recipient has reached the age of 64 years and 9 months and there is no MBI/HIC number posted on MEDS.
Note: For those aged aliens who are ineligible for Medicare because they have not met the 5 year residency requirement.
For those undocumented aliens who will NEVER be eligible for Medicare, IGNORE this alert. At this time there is no mechanism available to stop the MEDS Renewal process from generating the alert.
Action Required
- Check MEDS to verify if a recipient has applied for Medicare benefit. If not, the EW must refer the recipient to SSA to apply for Medicare coverage per Medi-Cal regulation. Add Medicare referral information to the Potentially Available Income Detail page.
- For information on who should be referred to apply for Medicare, refer to MC HB Chapter 20: Medicare Coverage, Section Individuals Required to Apply for Medicare.
- If the recipient already has Medicare coverage, enter the MBI and HIC number and relevant Part A and/or Part B information on the Medicare Detail page.
Reminder: Do NOT complete the Medicare Detail page unless the client is actually receiving, or conditionally eligible for Medicare Part A and or Part B.
