CLAIM-NO
Claim Number. This field contains the claim number or SSN under which the SSA benefit (Title II, Railroad Retirement, etc.) is paid to the beneficiary. MEDS tracks up to three claim numbers, since it is possible for a beneficiary to receive benefits under more than one account.
This data field contains 10 to 12 characters in length. The first nine characters of the data field are the SSA's Claim Account Number; it is either the beneficiary's SSN (if the beneficiary is receiving benefits under their own account), or the SSN of the individual on whose account the beneficiary is eligible for benefits (e.g. husband, father). The tenth character identifies whose account the beneficiary is eligible for benefits (e.g. A = Applicant, B = Spouse, C1 = Child 1, C2 = Child 2.)
