PD 24-16: SSI Approval Date in CalSAWS
Date: | 10/07/24 |
To: | Eligibility Staff |
From: | Merilee Vandiver Tafua, SSA BPIS |
Reference: | N/A |
Background
The county receives Interim Assistance Reimbursement (IAR) when an individual receiving General Assistance (GA) is found to be eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). For the IAR process to be successful, and for general informational purposes, it is important that the details of the client's SSI are accurately recorded in CalSAWS. The guidance below applies to ALL Eligibility Workers (EWs) regardless of program.
Guidance
EWs already use the Other Program Assistance Detail page to record SSI payment amounts (and if applicable, State Supplementary Payment [SSP] amounts), so the SSI approval date will also be recorded on this page.
System Instructions
EWs must enter the client's SSI approval date in the Date of Last SSI Determination field of the Other Program Assistance Detail page along with the SSI/SSP payment amounts. The approval date can be found on the official letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA), IEVS, on the QX screen in MEDS [Refer to "SDX-EFF-DATE" in the MEDS HB], etc.
Note: The date entered in the Begin Date field determines when the payments will be counted in the budget and is changed automatically when the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is applied.
Reminder: For CalFresh cases with elderly or disabled household members who only have unearned income or no income, ensure the household is certified for the correct certification period. [Refer to the Establishing Certification Periods topic in the CF HB].
Listing
For active cases that already have SSI/SSP payment entries and a blank Date of Last SSI Determination field, a one-time listing will be shared with District Offices after all assistance from CalSAWS to enter existing dates is exhausted.
Implementation
This guidance is effective immediately.
