PD 24-19: GetCalFresh.org Sunsetting in Phases

Background

Since 2017, the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), as part of its CalFresh Outreach program, has partnered with Code for America to provide online application assistance through GetCalFresh.org (GCF). Over time, GCF expanded its services to support SAR 7 submissions, document uploads, and more.

 


Changes

With BenefitsCal now available statewide, GCF services will sunset in phases.

Timeline

The SAR 7 feature. December 2024
Digital outreach and informational media campaigns through GCF. March 2025
The application assistance tool, including the Community Based Organization (CBO) portal, and the in-application document uploader tool. June 2025
Data dashboards, CBO tools, customer success services (customer text, email, and live chat features), and the GCF website.  September 30, 2025

Email Signatures

Information about GCF must be removed from email signatures. Staff can promote BenefitsCal and/or the Document Upload Portal.

Forms

The GetCalFresh SAR 7 flyer (SCD 2514) is obsolete and removed from DEBS Forms Library.

A new flyer Notice to All Households Receiving a SAR 7 Next Month (SCD 2623) was created and added to DEBS Forms Library. Program will have this flyer mailed out monthly, starting in October 2024 for households with a SAR 7 due in November 2024.
