Vocational Services Orientation

A VS Program Orientation must be scheduled for GA applicants after all eligibility factors have been cleared. A VS Orientation is also required for GA recipients whose employability status has changed from unemployable to employable. The steps below are to be followed:

  1. Eligibility Worker
    1. Completes GA/GR registration in CalSAWS.
    2. Schedules VS Orientation appointment. Refer to CB 23-63. Same-day appointments must be scheduled before the 12:15pm cut-off.
      1. Note: The EW must schedule an onsite appointment if the client does not have all of the following:

        1. a reliable phone number,
        2. an email address, and
        3. an "opt in" selection for E-Notification, IVR consent, and Text Message on the Contact Detail page in CalSAWS.
    3. Provides the applicant/recipient with the VS Orientation Appointment form (VS 002) indicating the date and time of the appointment.
  2. GA Clerical
    1. Sends a list of the orientations scheduled for the day to VS at 12:15pm.
  3. VS
    1. Sends the list back to GA at 1:30pm indicating which EC has been assigned to each case or which case was a no-show.
      1. Note: this list does not indicate final status of the orientation/assessment.

    2. Updates CalSAWS with the final status no later than 4pm.
      1. Updates orientation status to "complete" and GA/GR Employment Services program block to "active", OR
      2. Updates orientation status to "no-show" and GA/GR Employment Services program block to "deregistered".
  4. Eligibility Worker
    1. Reviews orientation list from VS. If client(s) are not on the list, schedules orientation for the next day.
    2. Checks CalSAWS after 4pm to determine final orientation status.
    3. Approves or denies the GA program and issues benefits as appropriate.
