Pregnancy Special Need Payment
Effective 7/1/2022, Assembly Bill (AB) 135 expanded CalWORKs eligibility for PPO applicants.
A PPO refugee, with no other children, is eligible for CalWORKs at any stage of the pregnancy. The pregnancy special need is allowed at the time of CalWORKs eligibility.
A pregnancy special need allowance is not paid on RCA/ECA cases.
Pregnancy Verification
Effective 7/1/2022, Assembly Bill (AB) 135, made flexibilities regarding medical verification for PPO applicants. PPO applicants may provide a sworn statement or verbal attestation to initially satisfy the verification requirement. However, medical verification must be provided within 30 working days for eligibility to continue.
