Background

Both needy and non-needy Non-Related Legal Guardians (NRLGs) are ineligible for CalWORKs since they are not related to the applicant or eligible child. NRLGs may be eligible for Foster Care benefits.

When an NRLG applies for CalWORKs, the Social Services Benefits Specialist (SSBS) must deny the CalWORKs application, then refer the NRLG to the Foster Care Bureau.

Changes

A Non-Related Legal Guardian (NRLG) topic has been created and added to CalWORKs Handbook Chapter 17: AU Composition.
