Able Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD)

Federal Regulations require some CF recipients to register for work and participate in approved activities in order to maintain their eligibility for food assistance. ABAWD work requirements apply to CF benefit recipients who are between the ages of 18 to 54 years old, have no children under 18 living in their CF household, and are able to work. If the recipient is an ABAWD individual without an exemption, their eligibility is limited to 3 months in a 36-month period (considered the 3-month time limit), unless the individual meets the ABAWD work requirements. ABAWD who do not meet any exemptions are required to work or participate in a qualifying activity for at least 80 hours per month. If the ABAWD individual does not meet the work requirements, their eligibility to receive CF benefits will be limited to 3 months out of a 36-month period. These requirements can be met by participating in approved employment and training activities like those offered through the CFET program.

The ABAWD time limit is currently waived statewide.
