Job Retention
Job Retention component provides case management and supportive services to participants who have secured employment. The goal is to help participants succees in their new jobs, maintain employment, or increase their earlnings, ultimately moving them toward self-sufficiency.
This component is available for a limited time after a participant has been hired and is intended to help them navigate the transition to employment.
Specific services offered through the Job Retention component include:
Case management: Ongoing support to monitor progress of the new job, address issues resulting from employment, and help with goal setting.
Problem-solving support: Assistance with resolving challenges that could jeopardize employment, such as conflict with co-workers or supervisors.
Supportive service: Assistance with supportive service costs, such as transportation, childcare, and work-related expenses (uniforms, tools, licensing fees, union dues, etc.)
Eligibility
Prior CFET participation: Participants must have engaged in at least one other qualifying CFET component (Supervised Job Search, Education, or Work-based Learning) before securing a job and receiving job retention services.
Only individuals who received employment and training services under another qualifying CFET component prior to obtaining new or improved employment are eligible for Job Retention services.
Active CalFresh status: The participant must have been receiving federal CalFresh benefits and CFET-eligible in the month they begin job retention services or in the month immediately preceding it.
Timeframes
Minimum duration: Job retention sercices must be provided for a minimum of 30 days
Maximum duration: Services can be provided for up to 90 days following the start of employment.
Start date:The 90-day period begins on the day the participant starts their new job.
The CFET program does not allow for a reimbursement of Job Retention services under 30 days or over 90 days. Days must be calculated by counting the actual calendar days from the date Job Retention component started.
The start date for Job Retention services may be determined utilizing the date hired, provided that the individual received CalFresh benefits in the month of or the month prior to beginning Job Retention services. For example, if Jane Doe started Job Retention component on 10/15/2024, then Job Retention services will be provided to Jane Doe at least until 11/14/2024 (30 days), but no more than 1/13/2025 (90 days).
