Background

The California Labor Code section 1182.12(c)(1) requires the Director of Finance to determine if the minimum wage must be adjusted for inflation and, if so, calculate the increase in minimum wage by the lesser of 3.5% or the rate of change per the United States Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Changes

The 2025 minimum wage of $16.50 was adjusted by 2.49% for the following calendar year. Effective January 1, 2026, the California State minimum wage is $16.90 per hour.
Cities in Santa Clara County may adjust their minimum wage based on the regional CPI or the state minimum wage. Refer to CalFresh Charts for more information on Minimum Wage in Santa Clara County
