Update 26-02: Propio ONE Video Remote Interpretation

Common Place Handbook

Date References Clerical Implementation
02/09/26 N/A N/A Immediately

Background

As a reminder, SSA DEBS staff have four options for language access vendors to meet over the phone interpretation, video remote interpretation (VRI), and document translation needs. Depending on which service best meets client-specific requirements and/or language availability, staff may select from any of the available language access vendors:

  • Propio (formerly known as CyraCom),
  • Global Interpreting Network,
  • Hanna Interpreting Services, and
  • TransPerfect.

Previously, DEBS staff could access CyraCom Connect online links to access an interpreter via VRI. In late 2025, staff were informed that CyraCom has been acquired by Propio Language Services per Common Place Handbook Update 2025-10.

Changes

CyraCom Connect online links to access an interpreter via a web browser for VRI calls have transitioned to the Propio ONE application. With the transition, the following changes will take place:

Staff should no longer access any CyraCom Connect links for VRI, and remove any previously saved links that may have been bookmarked on their browsers.

The following Common Place Handbook topics have been revised as a result of this Update:

Documentation

The use of interpreter services must be documented in the CalSAWS Case Journal. For guidance on documentation requirements, refer to the Interpreter Services Documentation section in the Interpreter Services topic.

Other Programs

The information contained in this Update applies to all DEBS programs.
