Medi-Cal for Children Receiving Mental Health Services for Children at the Children's Shelter
The PAC EW receives the list of Medi-Cal requests from Mental Health for children who were actually at the Children's Receiving Center for one month or more, and proceeds as follows:
- IDs the child in CalSAWS to see if there is already an active case.
- Checks MEDS to verify if Medi-Cal is active in the month(s).
- If Medi-Cal is already active in district office and there is a share-of-cost, the PAC EW works with Mental Health and makes every effort to resolve the problem.
- If MEDS is NOT active for the month(s) requested, searches for information in the Children's Receiving Center intake sheet, log-in sheet and searches the child’s record in CWS to determine if the child is eligible for Medi-Cal.
- Informs Mental Health when the child is not eligible and explains why. For example, some children are on “courtesy hold” for other states and are not a resident; or, the child is undocumented and is not eligible for full scope Medi-Cal.
- If the child is eligible for Medi-Cal, obtains the necessary documents and sets up a temporary folder.
- Gives temp. folder to control clerk for assignment to intake.
- After the intake EW approves Medi-Cal, the PAC EW prints MEDS screen(s) and forwards it to Mental Health as verification that the child is eligible for Medi-Cal for the month(s) requested.
