Personal and Incidental (P&I) Allowance

When a child’s Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Program (SSI/SSP) payment is used to pay the cost of residential services, the Personal and Incidental (P&I) portion of the SSI/SSP payment must be given to the regional center client. The P&I rate is normally updated by CDDS on January 1st each year when an increase is available.

For current rates, refer to the Foster Care Rates Chart (SCD 2405).

Documentation Required for Payment

No form is required to pay P&I. The SSBS must verify that the child is in receipt of SSI/SSP, where the county is now the designated payee. This must be documented in a CalSAWS Journal entry.

Exception: A DFCS Request - Placement Expenses form (SCZ 414Z) must be received to use all county funds when the P&I is requested for a child that is not in receipt of SSI/SSP or if the placement is in a For-Profit Facility.

Note: P&I cannot be paid while the child is receiving the dual-agency rate.
