Relocation Assistance Payments
Relocation assistance payments are provided to individuals displaced from their homes due to the acquisition of real property by federal, state or local projects.
Exempt
Federal, state and local government relocation assistance payments are treated as:
- Exempt property in the month of receipt.
- Exempt property beyond the month of receipt as long as they are kept identifiable.
Note: It is the applicant’s/beneficiary’s responsibility to maintain records or other means of distinguishing the relocation assistance payments, if these funds have been commingled with other funds.
Nonexempt
Interest earned on unspent federal, state and local government relocation assistance payments is nonexempt.
