9598 - Active MCIEP - Evaluate for Suspension (EW32) - Urgent

Eligibility for Medi-Cal Inmate Eligibility Program (MCIEP) has been added to the MEDS record, which indicates the Medi-Cal member is incarcerated in a public institution. However, an incarceration is not currently reported to MEDS for this member, although suspension of benefits due to incarceration may be necessary.

Action Required

• Review the case and assess whether the incarceration should be reported to MEDS in accordance with suspension of benefits policy for incarcerated Medi-Cal members. 
  • If a suspension is applicable, obtain the date of incarceration, update all necessary information in CalSAWS in order to submit the EW32 transaction to report the incarceration to MEDS to suspend benefits following existing policies and procedures for suspension, and issue the appropriate Notice of Action (NOA).
  • If the date of incarceration is unknown, the start date for the MCIEP should be used.
