8506 - Alien No Removed. Dup or Invalid, Update # and Verify - Alert

This renewal alert is generated when MEDS removed an invalid or a duplicate alien number on an existing MEDS record. On [INWD] screen, MEDS displays a ‘D’ or an ‘I’ on the ALIEN VERIFICATION COD data field to indicate a duplicate or an invalid alien number was removed. MEDS also generates this alert quarterly until the alien number discrepancy is resolved.

The following criteria based upon the USCIS are used to identify invalid alien numbers:

There is a non-numeric value in the Alien Number field;
The Alien Number field has a value less than 1,000,000;
The Alien Number field has one of the USCIS identified invalid alien numbers.

Action Required

Review a beneficiary’s USCIS document on file and SAVE report in CalSAWS.
Remove an erroneous alien number or enter a correct alien/USCIS number on the A Number field on the Individual Demographics Detail page and/or on the A Number field on the Citizenship Status Detail page.
Update the immigration status on the Individual Demographics Detail, Citizenship Status Detail, and Vital Statistics Detail pages, if the SAVE report indicates the beneficiary becomes citizen and request a citizenship verification.
Generate a SAVE report if none is on file. Refer to SAVE System for the instructions to manually request SAVE information.
Check MEDS in two working days for a correct alien # on the ALIEN-NO field and/or CITIZEN/ALIENT-IND code in [INQE] screen. If necessary, submit an SCD 1296 to request for updating a correct citizen/alien code and/or alien number in MEDS. Refer to MEDS QRG for a list of citizen and alien indicator code.
