9009 - BIC Returned - Undeliverable Address on MEDS - Urgent

The BIC has been returned by the Post Office because the address on MEDS was invalid. The BIC is saved by EDS for three days and then destroyed.

Because the address on MEDS has NOT been updated since this BIC was issued, no replacement BIC is generated.

Action Required

The EW must contact the recipient immediately to verify the correct address and take the following actions:

  • Enter the current address on the Address Detail page with the appropriate information. This will trigger CalSAWS to generate an EW12 (Modify) batch transaction to correct the address on MEDS; and
  • AT THE SAME TIME, request a replacement BIC via CalSAWS. Refer to CalSAWS "Job Aid (JA) Requesting a Benefits Identification Card (BIC) Replacement", for instructions.

Note: If the returned BIC is NOT the current BIC, DO NOTHING. To determine this, compare the ‘Issue Date’ of the returned BIC on the INXB screen with the date contained in the BIC-ISSUE field on the INQM screen on MEDS. If the date of the returned BIC on INXB is PRIOR to the date on MEDS, the County has already requested a replacement BIC.
