Terminations
- CalSAWS sends Termination (EW40/FX40) transaction(s) to MEDS when an individual benefit or a case is discontinued and authorized.
- When transferring an individual’s benefit from one case to another case, DO NOT process termination and approval transactions in the SAME day. The benefit for the same program should not be overlapped.
- MEDS terminates/changes an individual’s benefit once receiving notification from other systems, indicating the individual is deceased or receives SSI benefit via Worker alerts. Eligibility Workers should review these alerts and discontinue the individual’s benefit in CalSAWS with a(n) timely/adequate NOA.
- When discontinuing an individual’s MC benefit attached with other programs (CalWORKs, CalFresh, General Assistance, etc.) or with other household members in the case, EWs must follow an applicable program’s policy to ensure appropriate benefit level issued to the rest of household members for affected month(s). If necessary, Bottom Line Override (BLO) may be required.
- MEDS does not accept termination for the current month active eligibility after/at MEDS cutoff via a batch transaction. However, MTO can complete an online discontinuance transaction before 5 p.m on the MEDS Renewal date.
Refer to Calendars in the Program home page for MEDS cutoff and MEDS Renewal dates. - After MEDS Renewal date, MEDS will display the future month eligibility.
- Once the Medi-Cal eligibility is granted in MEDS for a particular month, MEDS will NOT allow anyone at county and state level to remove/reduce the coverage for that month.
Note: It will take two (2) working days for a batch transaction to become effective in MEDS. If a discontinuance is taken in CalSAWS on 06/23/21 (MEDS cutoff date) to terminate the eligibility at the end of June 2021, two days later on 06/25/21 (MEDS Renewal date is 06/24/21), MEDS will show the record terminated effective 06/31/2021, with ELIG-STAT code ‘341’ for July 2021 (late termination; July coverage remains active.)
