8004 - Buy-In Alert - Closed Period Accretion - Alert

This alert is generated to advise the EW that SSA has approved a Medicare Part B closed period Buy-In request for this recipient. The 2nd digit of the Medicare Status on INQM screen is changed to a “2” (Paid for by State Buy-In) for the period affected. The effective date of Part B Buy-In is provided on the [INQB] screen.

Action Required

The EW must review MEDS to see if there is future Buy-In for the recipient and update the Part B Payment Method and/or Part B Payment Amount fields of the Medicare Detail page accordingly:

If YES (buy-in continues into the future), eliminate the Part B premium deduction from the Medi-Cal budget.
If NO (buy-in is discontinued), allow the Part B premium deduction in the Medi-Cal budget for the appropriate months.
