This alert is generated as a result of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) to notify the county that the Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy (LIS) applicant must be evaluated for Medi-Cal and Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) eligibility.
The applicant was matched to the MEDS system and it was found that the client is currently receiving both Medi-Cal and MSP benefits.
Action Required
- Obtain all inquiry screens from the LIS database in MEDS.
- Compare the LIS application date(s) shown on the [LIS1] and [LIS6] screens against the application date in CalSAWS.
- Deny the application as a duplicate application if the LIS application date is LATER than the Medi-Cal and/or MSP application date.
- Evaluate the beneficiary for Medi-Cal and/or MSP eligibility for the month(s) prior to their current eligibility if the LIS application date is PRIOR to the Medi-Cal and/or MSP application date.
