Benefits of MEDS/CDB

  • Allows immediate need paper card issuance at district office. This paper Medi-Cal card is for identification purposes only; to be used by the client only until the recipient’s MEDS record is activated and a BIC is issued by EDS or their MEDS record is reactivated.
  • Provides online billing/claims submission for providers through CA-EV/CMS, a subsystem of the MEDS Network.

  • Provides access to the online eligibility verification system for all providers.
  • Tracks Medi-Cal contracted Health Care Plan enrollment.
  • Verifies information on restricted benefits.
  • Ensures confidentiality for Minor Consent or Sensitive Services.
  • Establishes a database of all active and inactive Medi-Cal, cash assistance and CalFresh cases.
  • Helps to eliminate fraud statewide (duplicate benefits participation).
  • Tracks eligibility for purchasing Medicare coverage.
  • Provides a statistical database on eligibles for budgeting and federal reporting purposes.
  • Provides information to State/Federal agencies on the alien and refugee populations, along with a cross reference file of Alien Identification Numbers.
