Message Types

The message type identifies the status of the alert and/or the disposition of the transaction.

The critical and priority message types identify those alerts that impact eligibility or SOC if not worked timely.

Type

Description

Critical (CRITICL)

The critical message type identifies the error condition as impacting eligibility and/or share of cost and indicates a fatal file clearance error; or a Medi-Cal eligibility determination is required or overdue.

Priority Accept (PRI-ACC)

This priority message type identifies the error condition as impacting eligibility and/or share of cost and indicates either:

  • Part or all of the transaction updated MEDS; some follow-up action may be required, or
  • Some change has occurred regarding a recipient's status on MEDS. Follow-up action may or may not be needed depending on the type of change.

Priority Alert (PRI-ALT)

This priority message type identifies the error condition as impacting eligibility and/or share of cost and indicates a need:

  • For follow-up action to resolve a discrepancy in the recipient's status on MEDS or
  • To verify that the action taken by MEDS is appropriate.

Priority Reject

This priority alert type identifies the error condition as impacting eligibility and/or share of cost and indicates:

  • That the transaction was rejected and
  • Did not update MEDS.

Follow-up action may or may not be required depending on the reason it rejected and whether or not the MEDS record was placed in Hold.

The remaining message types identify other error conditions in the MEDS batch update process that do not directly impact eligibility or SOC if not worked timely; or they may be follow-up alerts to the critical or priority alerts.

Type

Description

Accept

This message type indicates that part or all of the transaction updated MEDS. Some follow-up action may be required.

Action

This message is used to draw attention to alerts that always indicate a need for some follow-up action to resolve a discrepancy in the recipient's status on MEDS.

Alert

This message type either provides additional information to assist in determining what action should be taken on an action or urgent status alert or indicates that some change has occurred regarding a recipient's status on MEDS. If a change has occurred, follow-up action may or may not be needed depending on the type of change.

Reject

This message type indicates that the transaction was rejected and did not update MEDS. Follow-up action may or may not be required depending on the reason it rejected and whether or not the MEDS record was placed in Hold.

Urgent

This message type is used to draw attention to alerts that ALWAYS indicate a need for immediate action to resolve a discrepancy in the recipient's status on MEDS.

Hotline

This message type indicates that a telephone call to the MEDS Hotline is required to determine what action is necessary. If the alert number begins with an “X”, then the transaction was probably rejected because of a MEDS system problem that prevented the update from working correctly. If the alert begins with a numeric value, then the transaction may have been either accepted or rejected and there is a MEDS problem that prevented the correct alert from being displayed.

After going through the proper channels, a GadWIN ticket must be generated for each record with the relevant MEDS and CalSAWS/CalHEERS screen shots attached.
