CalSAWS, CalHEERS and MEDS/CDB interface

  • CalSAWS/CalHEERS is updated nightly from transactions authorized during the day.
  • CalSAWS/CalHEERS generates an electronic batch transmission nightly. This file contains all our daily MEDS/CDB transactions that are generated as a result of input into CalSAWS/CalHEERS.
  • The evening following the CalSAWS/CalHEERS transactions, the state processes the electronic transmission which updates records on MEDS/CDB.
  • CalHEERS generates the real-time and batch services to MEDS for application registration, APTC eligibility, and conditional MAGI eligibility for new applicants.
  • For rejected transactions, MEDS/CDB generates the appropriate CEWAs which are then sent back electronically to the county.
  • Alerts are viewable from the county’s Business Objects application. Alerts are also viewable in CalSAWS. The MEDS Alert Search page can be accessed by hovering over the Admin Tools bar on the Global navigation bar and selecting Alerts from the Local navigator. Additionally, the MEDS Network can be accessed to view the daily alerts online Refer to INWA - MEDS Worker Alerts.

Note: In order to decide what information to send to MEDS/CDB and what transaction to generate, CalSAWS compares the before and after data contained on the Masterfile and decides what has changed. Based on this logical process, CalSAWS translates the change into an appropriate transaction for MEDS and/or CDB.

For this reason, if data which is already present in CalSAWS is simply repeated, a transaction will not be generated. This is because a comparison of the before and after pictures of the file(s) show nothing has changed.
