RACF/MEDS Password Change

You are required to change your password/passpharase if you signed on with a temporary password/passphrase or your password/passphrase has expired. You can also change your password/passphrase when your password/passphrase is about to expire, at the time you are signing on to MEDS, or after you have signed on to MEDS.

Password/Passphrase Has Expired

You are REQUIRED and will be PROMPTED to change your password/passphrase when you have been issued a temporary password/passphrase OR when your password/passphrase has expired.

After typing your User ID and current password/passphrase and pressing ENTER from the MEDS Signon Request screen, the MEDS Password/Passphrase Change screen appears with this messagescreen appears with this message: “S802 Your Password/Passphrase has Expired. Please Enter Your New Password/Passphrase Below.” You MUST change your password/passphrase prior to gaining access to MEDS. To change the password/passphrase:


  • Type your NEW password/passphrase and press the Tab Key (follow the password rules in section RACF/MEDS Password/Passphrase),
  • Re-type your NEW password, and
  • Press Enter.

Password/Passphrase About to Expire

You may change your password/passphrase and will be PROMPTED to do so during the 5-day period when your password/passphrase is about to expire.

After typing your User ID and current password/passphrase and pressing ENTER from the MEDS Signon Request screen, the MEDS Password Change screen appears with this messagescreen appears with this message: “S801 You Have Successfully Signed On. Your Password will Expire in X Days.”


You MAY change your password/passphrase OR you may access all authorized functions by clearing your screen and typing the desired command or pressing the desired function key to access MEDS. If you choose to access MEDS at this point, you may change your password/passphrase later using transaction code PSWD. To change the password now:

  • Type your NEW password/passphrase and press the Tab key (follow the password rules in section RACF/MEDS Password/Passphrase),
  • Re-type your NEW password, and
  • Press Enter. 

Password/Passphrase Change At Sign-On

After typing your User ID and current password/passphrase on the MEDS Signon Request screen, change the default N on “Change Password/Passphrase?”“Change Password/Passphrase?” to Y. Press ENTER, the MEDS Password/Passphrase Change screen appears with this message: “S822 You Have Successfully Signed On and Requested to change your password/passphrase.”


To change the password:

Password/Passphrase Change After Sign-On

From any MEDS screen after successfully signed on, press CLEAR to obtain a blank screen. Type PSWDType PSWD and press ENTER. The MEDS Password/Passphrase Change screen appears with this message: “S823 Type Your Current Password And Your New Password/Passphrase In The Fields Below.”


To change the password/passphrase:

Note: If you changed your mind and do not want to change your password/passphrase at this time, you can enter MEDS by using F12 or any other MEDS function keys to which you have access.

Successful Password/Passphrase Change

The messageThe message "S824 You Have Successfully Changed Your Password/Passphrase” will confirm that you have successfully changed your password/passphrase. If you changed your password/passphrase but do not receive this message, your password/passphrase was not changed in the system. Change the password/passphrase again and ensure you receive the confirmation message confirming a successful password/passphrase change.
