ILIS - LIS Client Inquiry Request

The DHCS developed a LIS database consisting of seven MEDS inquiry screens.

Data from the LIS database is compared to MEDS to identify potential Medi-Cal and MSP eligible persons. Once identified, counties are notified of these potential eligibles via daily worker alerts. The LIS data will also assist counties with their evaluation of Medi-Cal and MSP eligibility.

The seven LIS inquiry screens are:

  • LIS1 - Client Data
  • LIS2 - Client Information
  • LIS3 - Client Address Data From MEDS
  • LIS4 - Client Income/Resources
  • LIS5 - Client Status Data
  • LIS6 - Client Data from MEDS
  • LISM - Multiple Applications.

To Obtain

  • From a blank MEDS screen, type ILIS to access the “LIS Client Inquiry Request” database“LIS Client Inquiry Request” database.


  • Enter the client’s SSN and press Enter. The [LISM] or the [LIS1] will appear.
  • If the SSN is not known to LIS, an error message “L702 No LIS Record Found” is displayed on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press F8 to move forward to the next inquiry screen. Press F7 to go back to the previous screen. Press Enter to return to the [ILIS] main request screen.
  • To move to a specific LIS screen, use the Option button at the bottom of the screen and type the last two characters of the screen, (i.e. ‘S5’).
  • Press Enter to return to the [LISM] screen if a client has multiple applications.
  • To view further details on an individual application on the [LISM] screen, type ‘S’ to the left of the desired application date and press Enter.
  • Press F3 to return to the [ILIS] main request screenmain request screen.


LIS1 - LIS INQUIRY - CLIENT DATA

The LIS1 is the first screenLIS1 is the first screen that identifies the client. Information provided includes:


  • Client demographic data,
  • Reject reason,
  • LIS application date,
  • Date referral made to county,
  • Household size,
  • Spouse information,
  • Burial/funeral expenses, etc.

LIS2 - LIS INQUIRY - CLIENT INFORMATION

The LIS2 is the second screenLIS2 is the second screen that identifies the client. Information provided includes:


  • Client’s mailing address,
  • Phone number.

LIS3 - LIS INQUIRY - CLIENT ADDRESS DATA FROM MEDS

The LIS3 is the third screenLIS3 is the third screen that identifies the client. Information provided includes:


  • Client’s current and pending residence/mailing address,
  • Home/work phone number,
  • Residence county indicator,
  • Address flag, etc.

LIS4 - LIS INQUIRY - CLIENT INCOME/RESOURCES

The LIS4 is the fourth screenLIS4 is the fourth screen that identifies the client. Information provided includes the client’s:


  • Client and spouse earned income,
  • Unearned income,
  • Resources.

LIS5 - LIS INQUIRY - CLIENT STATUS DATA

The LIS5 is the fifth screenLIS5 is the fifth screen that identifies the client. Information provided includes:


  • Date of LIS approval/disapproval,
  • LIS denial reason/code,
  • LIS effective date, etc.

LIS6 - LIS INQUIRY - CLIENT DATA FROM MEDS

The LIS6 Is the sixth screenLIS6 Is the sixth screen that identifies the client. Information provided includes:


  • Death date,
  • SSI last received date,
  • Pickle tickler indicator,
  • Citizenship/identity document type,
  • Citizen/alien data,
  • Authorized representative, etc.

LISM - LIS INQUIRY - MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS

The LISM is the seventh screenLISM is the seventh screen that identifies the client. This screen lists up to eight LIS application dates in descending order if more than one application was received by SSA for the same person. The county name will populate when the county is known. If not known, the “COUNTY NOT KNOWN” message will display.


  • To View further detail on an individual application, type 'S' to the left of the desired application date and press Enter.
