Reading a MEDS/CDB Alert Message
The MEDS/CDB Alert Messages are broken down into 3 sections:
- Alert Header - Section A,
- Alert Contents - Section B, and
- Alert Message - Section C.

Alert Header - Section A
The following table lists the report header sequence numbers, names and descriptions.

TRAN-CODE |
Transaction code identifies the type of transaction that generated the alert. It can be the transaction that was submitted to update MEDS or a MEDS-generated transaction such as a EW99. An EW99 or FX99 indicates the alert is generated as a result of a non-county generated transaction. |

SOURCE |
This data element identifies the transaction source for the alert. Refer to the Data Element Dictionary in ABAWD for valid values.

CREATE DATE |
This data element identifies the day the County created the batch transaction or the date that the online transaction was entered. It is used by MEDS to apply the County's transactions in the correct sequence in the batch update process.
This date helps the EW or MTO locate what they need to review for error identification. |

EW |
The EW number (caseload ID) is assigned to the case. |
6 |
CASE NAME |
The case name is sent from a system the client applies for public assistance (CalSAWS, CalHEERS, etc.) and is used to identify the case of which the recipient is a member. |

PERSON-NAME |
The recipient’s name. |
8 |
COUNTY-ID |
The 14-digit number (County ID-Aid Code-Case #-0-Person #) is the secondary identifier in the MEDS/CDB system. If no CalSAWS case number, CIN # will replaced “Case #-0-Person #” with “9” added in front of the CIN (e.g., active SSI). |

MEDS-ID |
The nine-digit number that is the primary and unique recipient identifier used by MEDS. This is the recipient’s SSN or if no SSN, the pseudo number is assigned by MEDS. |
10 |
BIRTHDATE |
The recipient's DOB in the format MM/DD/YYYY. |
Alert Message - Section C
The following table lists the report content sequence numbers, names and descriptions.

Alert Number |
This four digit numerical code identifies the alert and can be used to locate an explanation of the alert and appropriate follow-up actions. |

Alert Message |
The alert message briefly describes the alert. |

Alert Type |
The alert type indicates the status of the message and/or the disposition of the transaction (e.g., Accept, Alert, Reject, etc.). Alerts with a status of critical and priority identify those messages that impact eligibility or share of cost (SOC) if not resolved timely. |
14 |
DED |
This number identifies the data element used in MEDS/CDB. |
15 |
DATA |
This field identifies the source of the data element displayed. If the transaction is rejected or questioned, two lines will be displayed.

CONTENTS |
This field reflects the data contained in the identified DATA-ELEMENT field. |
