Domestic Abuse (DA) - Orientation, Appraisal and Support Services

Orientation and Appraisal

Clients who have been referred to a CalWORKs Social Worker/Domestic Violence Advocate or those with a DA exemption may be exempt from orientation and appraisal. If the client requests supportive services, orientation and appraisal are encouraged to explain policy and procedures regarding attendance and child care billing procedures, as well as other useful orientation information. A one-on-one orientation and appraisal may be arranged to accommodate the needs of the client.

Support Services

Child care, transportation and ancillary expenses are authorized, if needed, to support any DA issues/activities.

Batterers Program

After all alternative avenues have been explored, if deemed appropriate, a CWES client who is ordered by the courts to participate in a Certified Batterers Program may receive assistance with the class fee up to a maximum of 20% of the original amount. The Social Worker (SW) must assess the need and use the Ancillary Expense Estimate, Request And Verification (SCD 1584) to pre-authorize this expense. The SCD 1584 is forwarded to the AEC/EC to process the authorization and payment.

The client must be participating and cooperating with CWES prior to requesting assistance with the Certified Batterers Program. Financial assistance with the Certified Batterers Program is only available to participants and is not available to other members of the Assistance Unit (AU).
