1081 - Individual HIC-NO - HIC-NO SSN Does Not Match MEDS-ID - Priority Alert

This alert was generated because the HIC number contained in the transaction sent to MEDS did not match the MEDS-ID (SSN). The suffix in the Medicare claim number in the HIC Number field on the Medicare Detail page indicates this person is getting Medicare benefits from their own account (not from the account of another responsible relative such as their spouse). The HIC number has been removed from the transaction.

Possible Screens to Resolve This Alert

  1. Enter the HIC NOEnter the HIC NO from the TRAN MEDS ID number listed on the alert in the Cross Reference File Inquiry Request INXR screen.

  2. This screenThis screen indicates that there are 2 HIC numbers associated with the transaction MEDS ID. Note that the transaction HIC number matches the prior HIC displayed on this screen.

Action Required

  • The EW must review the HIC Number field on the Medicare Detail page and determine if the Medicare claim number was entered correctly. Normally the number will have been entered incorrectly (either the SSN or the suffix) and corrective action will consist of entering the number correctly and resubmitting the transaction via CalSAWS. CalSAWS will generate an EW30 (Modify) transaction to MEDS and the HIC number will be placed on the MEDS record.
  • If the Medicare claim number (including suffix) has been entered correctly, then either the MEDS-ID is incorrect or there is a MEDS system problem.

If the MEDS-ID is incorrect, enter the correct SSN in the SSN Detail page. CalSAWS will generate an EW10 MEDS-ID Change transaction to MEDS, which will not only correct the MEDS-ID but will place the HIC Number on the MEDS record. Enter the HIC Number exactly as it is listed on MEDS in the HIC Number field on the Medicare Detail page.

If the MEDS-ID is correct, the EW must refer this problem to the Information Systems Coordinator responsible for MEDS/CDB. After going through the proper channels, a GadWIN ticket must be generated for each record with the relevant MEDS and CalSAWS screen shots attached. The coordinator will issue instructions on what actions must be taken and by whom.
