Initial Payment of Aid - GA Policy [271]

The initial payment of aid shall be effective on the date of the determination of eligibility, or on the tenth (10th) day FOLLOWING the date a signed application is filed, whichever is EARLIER. For a sanctioned case, if the date of application is ten or more days prior to the end of the sanction period, the effective date shall be the FIRST day following the END of the sanction period.

ExampleExampleMr. Pham applies for GA on September 1. Eligibility is cleared and determination is made on September 8. The beginning date of aid is effective September 8.

ExampleExampleMr. Gonzalez applies for GA on September 1. Eligibility is NOT cleared and determination is NOT made until September 20. The beginning date of aid is September 11.

For new residents of Santa Clara County, as defined in GA Policy [GA 140], aid shall be effective no earlier than the sixteenth (16th) day following the date of continuous physical presence in the County of Santa Clara. 

Reminder: In order to establish residency an individual must be residing in Santa Clara County for 15 days.
